NAACP & Home Builders Join Housing Forces

The National Association of Home Builders has teamed up with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for a housing initiative that covers a range of issues, from educating consumers about the home buying process to easing regulations that limit construction. The two organizations also plan to focus on enforcing fair-housing laws and fighting predatory lending. They will "work together to better define predatory lending and work with the appropriate legislative bodies, federal banking regulators, and the financial services industry to eliminate predatory lending practices," the groups say. NAHB and NAACP also intend to press lawmakers on keeping intact tax benefits such as the mortgage interest deduction, property-tax deductions, and low-income-housing tax credits. The groups outlined their policy recommendations and action items in a jointly authored report, "Building on a Dream," released Wednesday. Source: American Banker
